Pakistan Bar Council has raised objections on the current Chief Election Commissioner.

In a statement issued by the Pakistan Bar Council, reservations were expressed regarding the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner, emphasizing equal opportunities for all political parties in the upcoming general elections.

The Bar Council has questioned the electoral process, constituencies’ delineation, and seat distribution by the Election Commission, stating that equal opportunities should be provided to ensure transparency in the electoral process.

The PTI Intra-Party Elections faced a hindrance in making a final decision by the Election Commission.

The statement mentioned that under the current Chief Election Commissioner’s supervision, transparent and fair elections cannot be guaranteed. The Chief Election Commissioner has created two constituencies in his ancestral area Jhelum, comprising 138,200 population, and allocated one seat in the National Assembly for the city of Hafizabad with a population of 130,000.

It was further stated that an imbalance in seats is observed in Rawalpindi district, and an additional seat in the National Assembly has been added in Gujranwala contrary to the population ratio.

The statement highlighted that questions arise about the transparency of the electoral process based on population proportions. The Pakistan Bar asserted that the Commission’s procedure raises suspicions about the integrity of general elections.

In the blasphemy against the election case, individual charges were once again filed against Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry.

The statement demanded that instead of confirming each action of the Commission, the Supreme Court should take notice of these discrepancies. The Bar Council is firmly convinced that the fundamental objective is not merely elections but ensuring free and transparent elections, providing equal opportunities to all stakeholders.

The Supreme Court, in consultation with the Bar, will convene a convention to announce the code of conduct for the lawyers’ movement. For this purpose, an all-Pakistan representative convention will be called soon, and the objective of the lawyers’ convention is to ensure the organization of free, fair, and transparent general elections.

The Pakistan Bar Council’s statement emphasized that transparent elections are not possible with the current Chief Election Commissioner, and the Bar Council is determined to promote transparency in the electoral process.
